Water Lillies
by June Manchak & Paulette Karras
June made a hands on kit for each member of the club which included gum paste, vinyl, formers and tools to create this flower. Paulette shared how to roll out the gum paste, cut petals using the Wilton daisy cutter set, vein the petals and assemble each water lily. Once the flowers were cut and veined, they were set in a tin foil flower former to dry. Petals could then be dusted with color to highlight.

Cross Stitch Cake- by Vicki Vasquez
Vicki's demo was on how she created a cross stitch design on a baby shower cake using gum paste and royal icing. She made individual panels for each side of the block cake with gum paste by embossing a cross stitch pattern with a rolling pin. After they dried, she used cookie cutters to outline a basic shape on each panel, then using tip 1Sand royal icing, piped mini stitch lines around the shape. She rolled balls of fondant to make a bead border.
Baby Twinkie Cake- by Barbara Wohlk
Barbara W's demo was on making chocolate toppers for cupcakes using molds. And she showed us how she makes a baby cake using Twinkies, a plastic doll face and a baby blanket. She iced a sheet cake and made a chocolate pillow for the baby's head to lay on. She positioned Twinkies on the cake to make the babies body, arms and legs. Then by piping buttercream to make a basketweave pattern on top of a piece of plastic wrap, she created a baby blanket which was layed on top of the Twinkies. Finally she added a ruffled edge border to the blanket. Check out the photo gallery for pictures.

Airbrushing- Christy Vega
Christy showed us how to use an air brush to color fondant, leaves, flowers and to use it to stencil color onto cakes. She demonstrated how to use and clear the air brush, sprayed color onto a fondant covered board that was taped off to make stripes and then did freehand scrolls to show the techniques of using the brush. She colored leaves and flowers in various shades along with a stenciled pattern with several colors on top of each other to show how the shading could look on a cake. She air brushed stripes on a dummy cake which was in the shape of the bottom of a cupcake, then added a domed real cake on top of that to make a jumbo cupcake which was frosted with buttercream and fondant sprinkles and a cherry were added to finish it off. Great ideas!
Sugar Eggs- Rachel Calisi
Rachel's demo was on how to make sugar Easter eggs. She had plastic molds in the shape of eggs, packed sugar inside and let dry for 2-3 hours. The sugar was scooped out of the center of each egg half, the each half was airbrushed with spray color. She shared how to add various flowers, figures, grass, etc with either royal icing or store bought items to fill in the scene inside the egg. Lastly, the egg halves were put together with royal icing and could then be decorated any way you like.

Leprechaun Hat Cupcake
by Tasha Odell
Tasha's demo was on how to make a really cute mini cake that looks like a leprechaun hat. She baked cupcakes and cut off the domed part, just using the bottom half for the base of the hat. She covered the cake in green fondant. After smoothing the fondant but before cutting off the excess she used a large circle cutter to cut the fondant so the brim of the hat was a perfect circle. Using a mini heart cutter, she made three hearts and positioned them into the shape of a shamrock to be placed on top of the hat. She used a small rectangle cutter to make the shamrock stem. With black fondant, she cut a 10" long strip to make a hat band. Finally, she made the buckle with the rectangle cutter and painted it silver ( or gold) at attached it to the front of the hat. Super cute idea! And she made one for everyone at the meeting too!
Baby Cake
by Carol Antes
Carol brought in one of her show cakes to show the club how she made the details on it. The cake was a cute baby themed cake with swags, bows, a baby with a blanket, cross and placque. She started with how to make the fondant swags by rolling it out very thin and folding it back and forth accordian style, then attaching on the side of a cake. She used a ribbon cutter to make the strips that were folded to make the bows and tails of the bow. For the baby's blanket, she cut a square of fondant and using a herb mincer tool she rolled a pattern on the blanket. She also used a water pen tool that can be purchased at craft stores in the scrapbooking dept to attach the fondant pieces together and onto the cake. She made a cross using a mold and finally shared how to make the baby's head and a teddy bear. Pictures here.
